Hello everyone!

I'm translating a paper on modal markers in Early Middle Japanese.

モダリティ形式同士の承接においても常に上位に位置する （例「ベカラム」「マジカメリ」） Aは疑問文での使用の可否に関して二類に分かれ、互いに承接することはない。

The term 承接 occurs twice in this sentence, but I can't grasp the meaning.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

In the examples, two modal markers, ベカラ and ム, are connected. So are マジカリ and メリ(they become マジカメリ when connected). It sounds some modal markers are not used together in interrogative sentences according to the statement here.
