Japanese term or phrase: 2段変化の意味
Dear linguistic translators,

This is another term which appears in an intermediate Arabic course description.

The sentence is:

基本的文法事項(格変化のバリエーション、2段変化の意味、複数のバリエーション、特別な形容詞とその女性形、名詞先行文の過去と否定等)について学び、アラビア語の格変化に対する理解を深めることを目指す。

Could anyone tell me what this 2段変化の意味 refers to.

Many thanks,

Nick

English translation:diptote declension
Explanation:
Looking at the information in the first two links, this seems to be diptote declension. If you want to be literal, you could go with something like "meaning of the diptote declension," although I think it's likely that this is just an explanation of the phenomenon and thus "diptote declension" alone would suffice.

agree  Minoru Kuwahara: I think "diptote declention" says it enough. Upon brief checking, I found there appear to be both 3段変化 and 2段変化 in Arabic, the former being more general while the latter being applicable to words imported from other languages. -

-> Thanks for the comment. Yes, 3段変化 would be the triptote declension, or normal/full declension.

neutral  Nathan Takase: This would probably be understood fine, but a diptote is the noun/adjective itself, while 2段変化 refers to the declension (語尾変化) of the case, thus diptote declension. Of course perhaps the content is actually about 2段変化の名詞・形容詞, but we can't know for sure.
