Japanese term or phrase: subprocess in a list of steps of a process
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the correct way to translate claims of the following form:

...方法において、
1)...すること、
2)...し、...し、...を調製すること、
3)...すること
を特徴とする...方法。

The part that stumps me is 2). I can think of 2 ways to translate the claim:

First way:
A method for ...ing...,
the improvement comprising
1) ...ing...
2) ...ing..., ...ing..., and ...ing..., thereby preparing ...
3) ...ing...

Second way:
Same as above, except
2) preparing... by ...ing..., ...ing..., and ...ing...

In other words, 2) is a step in a process, but this step only comprises preparing something by another process which also comprises several steps.
If I write "thereby preparing," it reads like I'm describing a step even though it is not a step but a description of the purpose of the previous steps.
If I write "preparing... by ...," I am deviating from the form "(the improvement) comprising..."
What is the proper way to write substeps of a step?

A method of claim %%, further comprised of the step of preparing … and … and the improvement further comprises the substeps of:
~ ing
~ ing
~ ing ………..; and

5. The write channel parameter optimization method of claim 1, further comprised of the step of performing write tests and read tests on the optimum level and on a default level of the write channel parameter further comprising the substeps of:

determining an error number for the optimum level and an error number for the default level of the write channel parameter by writing and reading a data pattern on and from the designated test track of the selected head/zone combination respectively with the optimum level and with the default level of the write channel parameter;

comparing the error number at the optimum level of the write channel parameter with a predetermined threshold value determined from the error number for the default level of the write channel parameter; and

recording the optimum level of the write channel parameter as the optimized write channel parameter value for the selected head/zone combination upon the error number at the optimum level of the write channel parameter being smaller than the predetermined threshold value, and recording the default level of the write channel parameter as the optimized write channel parameter value for the selected head/zone combination upon the error number at the optimum level of the write channel parameter not being smaller than the predetermined threshold value.

4.The method for pre-compensating an asymmetrical picture in a projection system for displaying a picture as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein said step (ii) comprises the substeps of:

(a) determining a compensation direction and calculating a maximum compensation amount and a compensation amount in units of a block on the basis of the key data inputted in step (i);
(b) calculating a number of pixels in units of a scanning line of the picture;
(c) determining a position transformation function on the basis of the compensation amount in units of a block and on the basis of the number of pixels in units of a scanning line, respectively calculated in steps (a) and (b);
(d) determining a pixel deletion position mapping area on the basis of the position transformation function determined in step (c) and on the basis of a predetermined position function; and
(e) calculating the position coordinates of deleted pixels in units of a scanning line and a number of the deleted pixels in units of a scanning line on the basis of the position transformation function and the pixel deletion position mapping area respectively determined in steps (c) and (d).

XX of claim ++ further comprising %% comprising ##, and wherein @@, and wherein ++, whereby $$...
<Example>
An umbrella tent frame of claim 10 further comprising a clevis assembly comprising an upper clevis member and a lower clevis member, and wherein the upper leg portion is connected to the upper clevis member, and wherein the shorter sides of the cross sections of the upper leg portions extend toward the interior of the tent frame when the frame is erected, whereby the upper leg portions can bend more freely toward the upper clevis member as the tent frame is erected.

Hope this will help you, Eric.
