Japanese term or phrase: 掛け算を成り立たせる、掛け算を生む、掛け算を作る
I have a bunch of sentences that apply a formula known as the Kaya identity to environmental analysis that are causing a few problems.

First the essay introduces the formula that is based on a multiplication equation. Then it applies this to its analysis by attaching the verbs 成り立たせる, 生む and 作る. It's confusing and I can't quite figure out what is happening to the multiplication in real terms.

1. しかし、この掛け算を成り立たせるのが容易ではない。

2. 問題は掛け算をどう作るかである。

3. このような掛け算を生む、供給側と需要側との組み合わせの例である。

4. 住宅地への植栽の積極的な導入も、掛け算を成り立たせる仕組みとなる。

Does anyone understand this use of 掛け算?

Many thanks in advance,

Nicholas

Explanation:
I am not familiar with the Kaya identity per se but perhaps these translations could work. If you're talking about a math problem, these would make sense in layman's terms.
