Explanation:
2回生 is the same as 2年生 in tertiary educational institute. It's only used in Kansai.
"Sophomore" is correct, but the term is only used in North America, and may not be understood elsewhere. So, I'm suggesting this just as an alternative.

agree  ckeikof: Agreed. Sophomore's only used in the US. I'm from Canada, and we use first year, second year etc.
