Japanese term or phrase: 付す
Appears in laboratory instructions for reverse phase chromatography using a silica gel solid phase.

この上清120mLに蒸留水を加えて220 mLとし、分取用カラムに付した。

The supernatant contains a material that is eluted from the fractionation column in the next process step.

My guess is 付した means "loaded" as in loading the column, but I cannot find a reference to back up this use.

Explanation:
As you guessed, 付す=load in this case. If you try to find the translation for "付す", you may not find "load" but you may find "add" instead. "add" is acceptable but "load" is better in this context.
