Lunga circa 110 km, tra il Lido di Latina e il fiume Garigliano, la Riviera di Ulisse rievoca nel nome il mito del girovagare ansioso e inappagato dell’eroe itacese, che, secondo ricostruzioni fatte sulla base del racconto omerico, ha lasciato numerose tracce della sua presenza in quest’arco di costa: nel golfo di Gaeta avrebbe fatto la brutta conoscenza con il popolo dei Lestrigoni; a Terracina avrebbe perso l’amico Elpènore, ivi sepolto; e al Circeo (oppure all’isola di Eéa, Ponza?) avrebbe vissu¬to la lunga stagione d’amore con la Maga Circe, che gli avrebbe dato il figlio Antèios, mitico fondatore di Anzio. Ma questa è anche la riviera dei Volsci e degli ***Aurunci***, popoli autoctoni che a lungo occuparono, rispettivamente, a nord e a sud, quest’area costiera, prima di cedere a Roma. La Riviera appartiene per intero alla provincia di Latina.
