Ce mot a la même origine que sophisme. Il signifie falsifié, frelaté, alambiqué, qui manque de naturel (exemple : un maquillage sophistiqué).
L’américain (pas l’anglais) sophisticated signifie perfectionné. Ce n’est pas du tout pareil ! C’est pourtant dans ce sens que sophistiqué est très souvent usité.
Si vous parlez français et que l’on vous propose un dispositif sophistiqué, fuyez !
