Va dunque sempre privilegiata la combinazione economicamente più vantaggiosa per l’Azienda (ad es. biglietti aerei incrociati per viaggi A/R ripetitivi diretti alla stessa meta).
I think this is referred to the purchase of two A/R tickets and then using only one outbound journey and one inbound one, but why this would be more economical completely evades me. Does anyone have any experience with this term and, ideally, any idea of a possible translation?

There's no need to buy a combined ticket if your rail journey is into Manchester city centre and the tram stop is in the Metrolink City Zone - you can use your train ticket for that tram journey for no extra cost.
