no areas with resistance due to disease Explanation: Not my field of expertise but that is what I think from reading the link below. Or perhaps is it better to say abnormality rather than disease. https://www.jove.com/science-education/10089/abdominal-exam-iii-palpation |

guarding Explanation: I think this is what they mean - it's a term typically used in this context. "Gentle, light palpation promotes abdominal relaxation and allows the detection of muscular resistance (guarding), abdominal tenderness, and superficial masses of the abdominal wall or abdomen." https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/medicine-and-dentistry/... "Abdominal guarding is the tensing of the abdominal wall muscles to guard inflamed organs within the abdomen from the pain of pressure upon them. The tensing is detected when the abdominal wall is pressed." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdominal_guarding "Abdominal examination revealed mild lower abdominal tenderness, with no guarding and positive bowel sounds. Laboratory examination revealed a normal ..." https://www.amjmedsci.com/article/S0002-9629(15)31522-6/abst... "Abdominal examination revealed a soft tissue bulge above the umbilicus with superficial ecchymosis measuring 3 x 4 cm (Figure 1). This was tender to palpation but the rest of the abdomen was soft, there was no guarding or rebound tenderness, and the bowel sounds were normal." https://www.annemergmed.com/article/S0196-0644(07)01787-8/pd... |
