Thank you everyone, you're help is very much appreciated :) You're right Fiona, I shouldn't assume that there was no x-ray but I also didn't want to put "x-ray" unless I was absolutely sure that that was what it was referring to. This was the only use of "rx" in all the texts I translated for this case and it didn't explicitly mention x-ray anywhere, just MRIs and an EMG. In the end I translated it as "review of scan" which was ambiguous enough to cover x-rays or any other scan it may have been referring to, it really wasn't clear at all! Thank you again everyone, this was really helpful!

I think it's important to remember that the fact no mention has been made of an X-ray in the documents you've translated doesn't necessarily mean one hasn't been done.

One of the Acromed entries for Rx is Radiografia. I think we can trust Gilberto Lacchia's opinion on this.

If you do an online search for "rx radiografia" or "radiografia rx" you will find thousands of examples where this initialism is paired with the word radiografia.

The Italian Wikipedia says "Per radiografia (RX) si può intendere l'immagine radiografica, o radiogramma, oppure la tecnica radiografica utilizzata per ottenere il radiogramma stesso."

Obviously there is very good reason to consider that we're dealing with an X-ray, although as Liz mentions it might be 'scan' ( I don't know this meaning of it ).

In my glossary I have "examine, inspect, see, view, look at" for visionare.

I didn't say that I thought it might but "rx" is commonly used in medical texts to mean "x-ray" so didn't want anyone going down the wrong path if they were to look into this.
