Italian term or phrase: In tal caso la maggiorazione assorbe gli interessi di mora maturati nel medesimo
This is part of Art. 27 of Law No 689 of 24 Nov 1989. http://www.ilsole24ore.com/art/SoleOnLine4/Speciali/2005/Doc...

I have considered 2 possible translations, although am by no means certain of either:
1. In this case, late payment interest accumulated during this period will also be increased by one tenth.

2. In this case, the increase of one tenth will be instead of the late payment interest.

Thanks for your answers, however it is the meaning that is very unclear actually. i.e. what it means by 'absorbs?

neutral  philgoddard: No, it's the other way around. The increase (whatever that may mean) is absorbing the interest.
