This is from an article on the structure of the earth. This part deals specifically with the process of karstification.

L’intera superficie del Montello è interessata dal fenomeno carsico che si manifesta con la presenza di oltre 2000 doline.
Il loro grado di sviluppo è diverso: nei tre terrazzi più recenti, posti più in basso nel settore occidentale, si trovano solo degli ***abbozzi***, mentre salendo verso i terrazzi superiori le forme diventano sempre più ampie e complesse.

I can't quite think of an idiomatic way of rendering this. TIA for any help.

Explanation:
Doline are sinkholes, which develop over time, but start out as slight depressions.
Subsidence (the opposite of uplift) /depression seem to be used interchangeably.
