Italian term or phrase: penne lisce turaniche
Hi, I'm translating an online shopping website from Italian to English. I stumbled upon this product: "12 conf. penne lisce turaniche bio da 500 gr", and have been trying to find an explanation for this "turaniche" word. One of my colleague (Italian) told me it was a very technical word and I should probably leave it untranslated but I want to be sure that there isn't any translation for it in English first.

When I google "che cos'è la pasta turanica", I don't seem to find any explanation at all. In English though i found this : "Our Turanici line pasta is made from turanicum wheat (triticum turgidum subspecie turanicum, more commonly known as T. Turanicum) from certified organic agriculture. ", the title of the article being "Penna Liscia Turanica", so again, in Italian.

Thank you for your help :)

Khorasan wheat smooth pasta quills

Explanation:
The name "kamut" appears to be a registered trademark, so I would go with "Khorasan wheat" instead.

"Khorasan wheat or Oriental wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. turanicum also called Triticum turanicum), commercially known as kamut, is a tetraploid wheat species. It is an ancient grain type; Khorasan refers to a historical region in modern-day Iran in the northeast and parts of Central Asia including modern-day Afghanistan. This grain is twice the size of modern-day wheat and is known for its rich, nutty flavor."

smooth kamut penne

Explanation:
Penne come in two forms, ridged ("penne rigate" with lines like rigatoni), or smooth ("penne lisce"). In the English speaking world, you tend not to see that specification made in my experience (except sometimes directly on the pasta packaging which is often in Italian), so I'd say it's optional to say "smooth," but I've added it just in case.

Turaniche refers to the grain. Grano turanico is what's most commonly known as kamut. It's one of those old-new (but actually old) grains that are all the rage among certain subsets of the population (along with millet, quinoa, amaranth, etc).
