This is from an "Attestato di esecuzione lavori" for an Autostrada bridge built over a river. Here's the phrase:

In corrispondenza di ciascuna campata di riva sono previste due bielle di appoggio (e trattenuta verticale), una situata all'estremita' ed una a meta' campata.

Perhaps "supporting connecting rod (with vertical retention)? Or maybe "di appoggio" is superfluous?
