According to the link you kindly provided, "Quando si parla di architettura la campata è quello spazio verticale compreso tra due pilastri, o colonne, solitamente reggenti un arco." You'd think that identification of horizontal space would be more important than vertical space in a museum. In fact, I was under the impression that "bay" had more to do with the ceiling than the floor.

That's a good suggestion, but the plan merely shows the section of the museum I'm dealing with and not the subdivisions of the section.

Areas? Sections? Rooms?
Have you had a look at a plan of the museum? The translation partly depends on whether they're separated by doors.
