In the sentence "Mereka yang tidak duduk main menumpang pasang." what is the meaning of 'main menumpang pasang'? Does it mean that, in illegal card games such as go on at weddings, etc, those who are not at the table, but standing around watching, are also betting on the game? I am not a gambler, so I don't know how such things work!

I think there should be a coma after 'main', so the sentence becomes: "Mereka yang tidak duduk main, (ikut) menumpang pasang (taruhan)" = "The viewer, who doesn't play the game, may join the bet".

I'm not an expert in this gambling thing, but my guess is more/less the same with your explanation. So maybe the viewer put his money on one of the gambler, when he's sure with this gambler.

Asker: Thanks, Lita. Maybe, in the context of the story, it could be "Those who weren't seated at the betting table were betting on the play." So those standing around were betting on one or another of the players at the table.
