Indonesian to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Botany / tobacco plantation
Indonesian term or phrase: silak dan gebrus
Is there a proper english term for "silak dan gebrus"?
Gebrus- means turning over soil as far as I could see.
My plan so far is just to translate it as "forming ditches and ridges".
The topic is Pengolahan tanah sistem Reynoso:
Here an excerpt.
Selanjutnya dipasang patok-patok untuk membuat selokan dan guludan. Pekerjaan selanjutnya adalah silak dan gebrus.
Silak dan gebrus I:
Lapisan tanah atas dibuang ke kiri dan ke kanan shingga a1 a2 dan a3 menjadi guludan dan b1, b2, b3 menjadi selokan.

constructing ridges and furrows

Explanation:
Basically, you are correct. In Indonesia, the land preparation applying the Reynoso system is called as "pengolahan tanah/lahan surjan".
-guludan: ridges or beds
-tabukan (selokan or parit): furrows or ditches.
In "the surjan system", agriculturalists prefer the term "tabukan" in order to differ from the general terms of "selokan" or "parit".

The basic meanings of "silak" and "gebrus" are as follows:
Silak: to heighten soil beds or ridges by hoeing/digging soil in in their right- and left-side ditches
Gebrus; to hoe soil in order to be loose

I would like to suggest you to use the term "constructing ridges and furrows" for "silak" and "gebrus".
