Mindenekelőtt emlékeztetni kell közép-európai beágyazottságunkra, és a kifejezésből áradó németes szellemre. A szó a "gemeingesellschaftlich" magyarítása (bár valamirevaló angolos ezt értetlenkedve/feszengve hallja).

Az efféle szavak a két háború közötti időben árasztották el az UK és US tudományosságot, s többnyire másként hangzanak a tudomány szférájában, mint egyebütt.

Az előbbiben a "common societal X" dívik, ahol X = target / goal / objective / sőt: purpose is (a sorrend nem az én preferenciám, hanem a gyakoriság) -- tessék ellenőrizni (idézőjelek között) a Neten.

A sajtóban, politikában más megfelelői is lehetnek, pl. "nationwide (social) X" is.
