A four-drawer filing cabinet – 0.6 lm per drawer (depth of drawer) takes up 0.6 x 0.4 = 0.24 square metres – but the four drawers gives you 2.4 linear metres worth of storage. Three drawers gives you 1.8 linear metres worth of storage.
