Dicţionarul Englez-Român al Academiei traduce skirmish prin:

1. (mil.) ambuscadă, mică luptă locală, hărţuială
2. încăierare
3. (fig.) discuţie aprinsă, conflict, ceartă scurtă

Acuma depinde de context; dacă e un context militar, atunci e 1, dacă e vorba de discuţie aprinsă etc. atunci e 3, sau cum zice Christian: ciorovăială, ciondăneală etc.
