Poprawa akustyczna to redukcja dźwięków powstających i słyszalnych w tym samym pomieszczeniu np. pod wpływem kroków - efekt stukających paneli. (Raumschall, Gehschall).

Izolacja akustyczna to pochłanianie dźwięków słyszalnych w pomieszczeniu poniżej np. głośna zabawa u sąsiadów. (Trittschall).
