Nigdy się w polskich tekstach nie spotkałem z rozróżnieniem terminologicznym pomiędzy takim generalnym wykonawcą, co wykonuje jakieś prace we własnym zakresie a takim co nie wykonuje. Nie jest to również uregulowane w przepisach budowlanych (nawet termin "generalny wykonawca", mimo że występuje w k.c., nigdzie nie jest zdefiniowany). Generalübernehmer (GÜ) unterscheiden sich von Generalunternehmern (GU) dadurch, daß ein GÜ keinerlei Eigenleistungen mit seinem eigenen Unternehmen erbringt, sondern lediglich Managementaufgaben zur Koordination der an Nachunternehmer vergebenen Fremdleistungen wahrnimmt.
