As used in the context "Sommer- und Wintereinstand" when talking about game animals and game animal migrations within their range (ibexes in the Alps in this particular case). Summer and winter range or territory, perhaps? I'm afraid there isn't much more context than that.

...is "the place where animals are normally found **", and here is one reference from google from quite a lot for the exact phrase "summer and winter habitat", though many of them do refer to fish (!), like this one:

agree  Cetacea: See also http://www.biologischevielfalt.at/ms/chm_biodiv_home/chm_nac... All the terms given above are way too general. An "Einstand" (resting site/cover) is a very small part of a habitat.
