Explanation:
Es gibt je nach Land eine ganze Reihe verschiedener Klettergrade. Fürs Sportklettern (und darum geht's hier) ist die französische Skala (9a) die üblichste und die, die weltweit zur Anwendung kommt. 5.14d ist die amerikanische Entsprechung. Der "glatte 11er" kommt aus einer der beiden deutschen Skalen, die außerhalb Deutschlands nicht verwendet wird.

"A straight 11" macht also als Übersetzung leider keinen Sinn.

In dem Forumspost, den du als Quelle zitierst, ist von 5.11a die Rede. Das entspricht einer deutschen 7+/8- und unterscheidet auf keinen Fall die Starken von den ganz Starken.

Wenn der Text nach Australien oder Neuseeland geht, gibt's natürlich auch noch die australische Skala (35). Auch Großbritanien hat seine Skala, die wird aber normalerweise nicht für's Sportklettern verwendet. Beim Sportklettern verwenden auch die Briten die französische Skala.
