Es existieren verschiedene branchenspezifische Definitionen. Grund für die Einrichtung von Reinräumen ist die Vermeidung von Kontaminationen, welche in verschiedenen Bereichen von Industrie und Forschung zu unerwünschten Folgen führen können. Für die Tätigkeit in Reinräumen sind verschiedene Anforderungen an das Personal definiert.
