I am struggling with how to best tranlsate "seitlich gegeneinander verrückt. I have made this attempt so far. I am very spatially challenged, so any help is appreciated (parallel parking is a nightmare for me)!!

If you now shut one eye and then the other one, you will see the two objects displaced sideways in relation to each other.

Thank you very much Cilian- this worked out fine in the text. I am not sure who the target group actually is - I asked the customer and he was a bit odd - I was able to infer that the readership is a general public and that the framework would be a small display in a museum

agree  Lori Dendy-Molz: good, especially if the audience is somewhat academic//could probably drop "relative," but might add "apparent" lateral displacement (not actual), although that's not really being asked for here.//ah, yes, with 2 obj., "relative" is needed

on second thought, they don't move toward each other, they shift in relation to each other, so your original idea (or Cilian's) was better.
