Hi again,

This is a cleaning product "gegen Rauchharz". I googled it and got "smoke resin", but most of these hits are either translations of German sites or instructions for cleaning your drug paraphernalia.... ;-)

neutral  Samira Goth: soot is easy to remove with conventional cleaners, Rauchharz is the brown stuff that is sort of baked to the surface

  -> maybe it's just really resistant soot! :-) I get your point, but I wonder whether there is actually a specific term for this in English. ...tar, (tobacco tar), resinous soot, smoke residue... ?

Explanation:
Just an alternative thought - my immediate impression was that this was to do with the deposits left as a result of smoking (tobacco, etc.) No way of knowing without any further context, but just thought I'd throw it into the melting pot!

agree  Jeremy Amos: I think you might be onto something! British smoke certainly contains tar, not resin. I'd have said resin is non-volatile. But don't quote me on it.
