"And we say 'please' and 'thank you' while we're doing it." Or in some cases 'No acceptable answer'.
"Who needs the jelly babies?" Only those squabbling kids in the KudoZ charts.

Since the points do have an impact on search machines, they do play a part. But only a part. The most valuable kudoz attributes are a thick skin and good ideas. Take it light, you're outta sight.
Yes, I'm beginning to realize that I upset people here without trying. Personally, I can't think of anything less important in the world than a 'KudoZ point'. We're all here to solve little language problems, no? And we say 'please' and 'thank you' while we're doing it. Who needs the jelly babies?

Good morning Sinolig

As Andrew said, when a question is closed without selecting an answer, those who contributed appreciate an explanation - what solution you have found and, at best, why. This however, is no safeguard against kudoz contributors getting their backs up about WHICH suggestion you selected. Translators are a headstrong species ;-).
People got upset that I closed the discussion, so I reopened it. Ramey will get the points unless someone else comes up with something that seems better.
Sorry! I really didn't intend to offend anyone - on the contrary I'm always extremely grateful to anyone trying to help me here, but perhaps less aware than others about rules of ProZ etiquette. I got an e-mail asking me to select an answer, but I didn't feel that there was an answer closer than my own "devotions to the passion of Christ". The proposals offered both seemed too specific. I'll reopen the debate and see what happens...
I didn't even get a notification to say it had been closed. Maybe one doesn't with these things. Strange. I can see though that sinolig might have been caught between two stools, but, as you say, Lancashireman, it is always nice to have an explanation, particularly when one has put a certain amount of effort in trying to help.

In the source text it says: Die Verehrung der fünf Wunden Christi steht *in Zusammenhang* mit der Leidensandacht.
That means: The veneration of the five wounds of Jesus Christ is *connected to* the Leidensandacht.
Which means that we are talking about two different things, of which the Passionsoffizium is not part.
The Little Office of Passion is a collection of verses and psalms for the Liturgy of the Hours. However, the Seven Sorrows include The Crucifixion, The taking down of the Body of Jesus from the Cross, The burial of Jesus, where I do see a connection with the five wounds.
The veneration of the five wounds leads back to the bible verse „By his wounds we are healed (Is 53:5). It is meant to protect from unexpected death.
It is different from and not part of the Little Office of the Passion, which you will find is translated „Passionsoffizium“ or “Offizium vom Leiden des Herrn”, not “Leidensandacht”.

Little Office of the Passion
Explanation: The Little Office of the Passion follows a pattern constructed by Francis of Assisi. He ordered this office around the medieval association of five specific moments in Jesus' Passion with specific hours of the day.
That seems a reasonable alternative, though the Little Office specifically attends to the Five Wounds as is mentioned in your text. But your solution may be better for comprehension's sake, and for a lay audience.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hello (again) Helen. How did you get from Leidensandacht to Little Office of the Passions?
Asker: I suspect that 'Little Office of the Passion' is more specific than 'Leidensandacht'. Perhaps 'devotions to the Passion of Christ' would be safer. What do you think?

Many thanks!

Asker: Jelly babies are Fuchtgummis. In Switzerland they're known as Gummibärli and are sometimes used by ski instructors to reward children. Thanks you very much for you answer Ramey.
