fully upholstered: lid lining in white plush fabric Explanation: It can only be low because I'm suggesting a typo. But here are some fully upholstered coffins, for instance: http://www.mayerfuneralhome.co.uk/coffins-casket-show-room/t... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2014-07-08 14:12:51 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- And here is a coffin with a white plush lining: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lovely-in-All-Ways-Stainless-Steel... |

full coffin(casket) lining: sheet fabric in white-peach Explanation: I suspect this is about the coffin lining fabric. Full lining would be lid and casket and the sheet in a shade of white with peach tones. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 16 mins (2014-07-08 09:52:13 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- A little more research on the Web reveals a type of satin described as "satin pesch/pesch satin", used for wedding and bridesmaid's dresses. Peach satin turns up a few times for fabrics, but predominantly in conjunction with cosmetics. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 27 mins (2014-07-08 10:03:20 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Shown in these references both as simple linings and as a combination of pillow and padded "mattress" http://www.sargexpress.de/textilien/innenausschlag/farbig/73... For the description of a dress in the Topkapi Museum: "In the archives of Topkapi Museum that have come down to us today there a dress belonging to Ayshe Sultana, who was the daughter of Murat 111 and Safiye Sultana. This belongs to the last quarter of the 16th century. It is printed with a design of three silver spots on blue combed cotton 'canfes'. It is collarless, and is deeply décolleté in front and is buttoned with silk loops and silk buttons to the waist. The sleeves, neck and skirt are edged with the same material in orange. Two pieces of cloth were added to each side of the front and back panels of the skirt (these were known as 'pesh') and it is 130cm. in length." Perhaps in the funerary context these are pieces of cloth folded across the deceased before closing the coffin (pure guesswork) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 6 hrs (2014-07-08 15:41:56 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Another two Turkish references, same source. "side gussets (pesh)" "its wide skirt has two extra panels at the back and front known as 'pesh'. This is a kind of gusset sewn to the skirts to make it fuller." |

Not sure how we'd say this - laying to rest? -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 mins (2014-07-08 09:51:12 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Casketing (though this may be US English) Funeral directors may at times be asked to perform tasks such as dressing (in garments usually suitable for daily wear), casketing (placing the human body in the container), and cossetting (applying any sort of cosmetic or substance to the viewable areas of the person for the purpose of enhancing appearances). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funeral_director Reference: http://www.bestattungen-in-ostholstein.de/pages/hilfe-im-tra... |
