It is not subject to any chemical processes at the mine but needs to be removed to allow access to the ore. For every tonne of ore we mine, there are five tonnes of overburden which are moved to an area called the Overburden Emplacement Facility (OEF). Overburden includes topsoil, clay, and a variety of rocks, each of which is stored in distinct parcels in order to reuse materials wherever possible. The OEF is designed to protect against any environmental impact. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 30 mins (2017-06-23 01:30:43 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I know "overurden" seems strange but it's mining jargon -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 31 mins (2017-06-23 01:31:17 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "overburden" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 33 mins (2017-06-23 01:33:26 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- should really be "overburden removal/handling equipment" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 34 mins (2017-06-23 01:34:15 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- a lot to digest I admit but that's it |
