German term or phrase: Quetschfalten
In a report on cracking in the pipework of a power station; the cracks originate in defective welds.

"Besonders gefährdet sind manuell erstellte Schweißnähte, die infolge hoher Wärmeeinbringung Quetschfalten an der Schweißnahtwurzel oder auch Schäden im Gefüge aufweisen".

Are there any welding experts who can help me with the correct term, please?

wrinkles

Explanation:
Even as wrinkles, unlike Quetschfalten, includes no explanation for the cause of the defect, it does convey the appearance of the defect. The cause, though, is further specified in your text as: infolge hoher Wärmeeinbringung, so:
... wrinkles at the weld seam root caused by high thermal input ...
might suffice.

Example sentence(s):
  • Voids and wrinkles - A proper hot air welded seam has no voids or wrinkles and must be at least 1-1/2 inches (4 cm) wide. Refer to Seam Probing procedures outlined below for proper inspection of seam deficiencies.
  • As with all deep drawing applications for sheet metal, two of the primary forming concerns associated with TWB forming are tearing and wrinkling failures.
