Greetings. In Company W.'s history on the company website, aimed at international English speakers, the following sentence appears:
"Nach dem Kauf der Medizinaldrogenfirma A., arbeitete Firma W. als Drogenhandelsgesellschaft"
The company mostly deals in medicinal herbs and the like, so I am not sure if "pharmaceutical company" would be appropriate here.
Every other version I try with "drugs" sounds like illegal drugs - Drug dealing company, Drug company, Drug business.
Any other ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

Not an unusual term – and the German term carries the same mis-/connotation of illegal drugs.

"Droge" in a medicinal sense is in fact only (AFAIK) used in phytotherapy and refers to the plant materials (leaves, roots etc) from which specific teas, creams, extracts are produced. These are often qualified as "crude" drugs in English.

Wenn es sich tatsächlich um phytotherapeutische "Drogen" handelt, wäre "Herbal crude drug supplier" o.Ä. eine deutlichere Alternative, da "drugs" ja im Gegensatz zu "Drogen" nicht nur für (pflanzliche) Ausgangsstoffe, sondern auch für die fertigen Produkte/Medikamente verwendet wird. Wenn das als Unternehmensbezeichnung zu sperrig ist, kann man "herbal" und/oder "crude" vielleicht an anderer Stelle im Text unterbringen.
