"Kuren" im 21. Jahrhundert
Überschrift eines Artikels über ein Schweizer Kurhaus, welches die Inhouse-Wäscherei mit einer speziellen Waschanlage ausgestattet hat. Im Text kommmt das Wort nicht mehr vor. Es geht hier mehr um die fortschrittliche Ausstattung diese Kurhauses.
Ich denke, dass eine Kur ein eher europäisches Konzept ist und kann keine direkte Übersetzung finden. Auf der Seite des Kurhauses wurde "Kur" mit "stay" übersetzt. Das passt aber in der Überschrift nicht, da "stay" nichts über die heilende Wirkung des Aufenthalts aussagt.

Wie in meiner Frage erwähnt, geht es im Text nicht so sehr um die Kur sondern eher um die Ausstattung der Inhouse-Wäscherei. Ich finde daher den deutschen Titel etwas irreführend. Obwohl es ja schön ist zu wissen, dass die Bettwäsche, Handtücher etc. beim Waschen desinfiziert werden. Da der Text also im Wesentlichen von der Ausstattung der Anlage und der Wäscherei handelt, denke ich, dass hier etwas freier übersetzt werden kann. Ich werde dem Kunden mehrere Vorschläge unterbreiten: Taking the waters - a 21st century approach "Taking the waters" in the 21st century Health resort of the 21st century Health and rehab - a 21st century approach

the first page is only about health spas! I checked. do we have different Googles? I'd like to see the 'cure' you're talking about, sounds interesting! Unfortunately, I really do have to work!
This suggestion was mainly a response to Gudrun's concerns about not every cure being a water cure. Yet, "taking the cure" may be on a similar way since a fair share of first and second-page G-hits seem to refer to vampires being turned into humans rather than "normal" people recovering from "normal" ailments ;-)

I'm not so sure Taking the Cure would need to be put in quotes. It's not an idiom, it's jsut a statement. Taking the Waters, however, since it's a dated expression, should be.
Obviously, anything like "taking the waters", "water cure" or "taking the cure" should be put in quotation marks (btw, Heike: Stehen die Anführungszeichen um "Kuren" so in deiner Überschrift, oder hast du sie zum Hervorheben selbst ergänzt?). Meaning, what was "taking the waters" then is a highly sophisticated advanced technical service nowadays.

there is also the expression "Taking the Cure" which would keep it open to various types of curative treament.

There are so many types of Kurort. The majority of Germans that I know who have had a "Kur" did not drink any water at all! These days the range of conditions being treated and the range of treatments available is far wider than drinking a particularly healthy water. Patients with asthma or bronchitis might go somewhere to breathe very pure air (perhaps in the Swiss Alps?), other patients might benefit from physiotherapy, relaxation, psychotherapy, dietary changes etc.

You run the risk of having vague translations by isolate the word from its context. From the given context I agree with Riger and Show (drinking the waters)
At least one Swiss Kurhaus has used this idea in its English-language material. It IS an older expression, but also quite common in Thackeray, Dickens and Co. Even the not so wealthy, such as Micawber 'took the waters' on doctor's orders. Ah, a Dostoyevski fan?
To me (an American) "taking the waters" sounds very pre-20th-century European, something the nobility engaged in. I think many Americans would not understand it at all (I've read a lot of 19th-century Russian novels, in which the gentry go to Europe to "take the waters.")

Hm, ein Verb... Von "spaing" bin ich nicht so ganz überzeugt. In den USA ist ein Spa wo man Massagen und Pediküren erhält,so der ganze medizinische Aspekt wird meiner Meinung nach mit diesem Wort nicht erfasst.
"Taking the waters" finde ich sehr interessant, insbesondere, da es ja zu einem großen Teil um die Inhouse-Wäscherei geht. Ich weiss allerdings nicht ob es in Amerika verstanden würde.

The BE version I have often come across in literary works is "Taking the Waters", something not only the well-to-do indulged in. This may be a poetic solution.
I am not looking for a translation of the name of the Kurhaus XXX but the word "Kuren". The text says little about the benefits of such a "Kur" and is more aimed at presenting the facility as modern/high-end/trendsetting - including its laundry facility. To me it looks like a combined marketing effort of the Kurhaus and the manufacturer of the laundry facility equipment.
I'm sorry to disagree with Susan Welsh but I think it's simply the name of the hotel "Hotel Kurhaus" I would not translate - see e.g. Waldorf Astoria New York or http://www.hotel-kurhaus.ch/de/.
Explanation: Grammatisch ist es zwar nicht eindeutig, aber ich lese "Kuren" hier eher als Verb - also wären Phrasen wie "Modern Spa-ing" auch möglich (oder, je nach Stil des Artikels, 21st Century, State-of-the-Art, Cutting Edge Spa-ing etc).
Ansonsten gefällt mir dein "Health spas of the 21st century" aber auch sehr gut.
