What materials scratch glass?
the short answer is anything with a knoop hardness greater than 5. This is somewhat misleading as it depends on the type of glass but for the generic window glass and household glass that applies. So anything harder than a decent tool steel which includes almost every hand tool you might encounter, most gem stones (sapphire, diamond, emerald, ruby(basically the same as sapphire and a lot of others). Many minerals like jade, quartz, feldspar, tourmaline and many others. I think that covers all the common materials there are many industrial materials that work too including carborundum, zircon, garnet and most ceramics.

Start away from you, a short scribe to the furthest edge, then all the way back in one scribe. Speed is the essence. If it's a long cut on a work surface, pull the glass towards you so it overlaps the edge, hold either side of the scribe, lift and peel apart like opening a book. If that doesn't work, first blame the scribing, then put a nail or a barbeque skewer exactly under the scribe and push down either side. If that doesn't work, use a "V" notch tile plier/cutter at the edge. For thick plate glass, a Rubi type tile cutter works well
