Dear colleagues,

I'm translating the book AI in Marketing, Sales and Service by Peter Gentsch.

Originally, this book was written in German (Künstliche Intelligenz für Sales, Marketing und Service: Mit AI und Bots zu einem Algorithmic Business) so I'm dealing with the English translation of the German original. And sometimes the English translaion seems rather strange to me and to native English speakers as well.

This is the German original:

Seit Jahren begleitet uns die Redewendung „Service ist das neue Marketing“ – mit Bots besteht nun ein wirtschaftlich attraktiver Weg, dies tatsächlich zu einer substanziellen und tragfähigen Säule im Marketing-Mix zu entwickeln. Auf diesem Weg entsteht eine Brücke zwischen Service-Organisationen, die auf Kontaktvermeidung und -verkürzung getrimmt sind, und Marketing-Organisationen, die viel Zeit und Budget in die Her- stellung und Verstetigung teils derselben Kontakte investieren. So werden Anliegen aus Marketing, Vertrieb und Service idealerweise Schwerpunkte einer zwar immer wieder pausierten, ***aber anschlussfähig geführten Kundenkommunikation***.

This is the English translation:

The saying “service is the new marketing” has been accompanying us for years—with bots, there is now an economically attractive way to actually develop this to become a substantial and bearable pillar in the marketing
mix. This is how a bridge is built between service organisations that are eager for avoiding and limiting contact, and marketing organisations that invest a lot of time and money in establishing and continuing partly the same contacts. This way, issues from marketing, sales and service ideally become focuses of a customer communication that is indeed paused every now and again, ***but can always be picked up on***.

I'm not sure what "but can always be picked up on" means in this context (does it simply mean that a customer communication can always be continued/resumed?), so I'd like to know the intended meaning of the German original.
