I'm a but stuck on the "Einsteuerung" part of this. Could it be "contributory paramters" or "governing paramters"?

Asker: Thanks, that is one of the options I considered, but it doesn't seem to work in many of the contexts where "Einsteuerung" is used by this author, at any rate, although it would definitely fit in some. But when consistency is "oberstes gebot" life as a translator gets difficult :-(
