redress, recourse

Explanation:
I've never seen the word used this way, but I think it has to be the meaning. To rehabilitate something means to restore it to its original condition.

Asker: every time I post something someone complains about not having enough context :) This is my life as a translator!!!

agree  Chris Pr: Can only be the 'outcome' aspect (redress), imho, given the context cited... :)

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thats also what I thought. Its a defamation case. I was wondering whether it related to a specific procedure.

agree  Steffen Walter: First thing that sprang to mind (i.e. "to clear his name"), though I don't know if this is too colloquial for strictly legalese language.

-> Granted, it seems less formal than 'rehabilitation', but I know I've seen or heard it with the meaning we're looking for. With 'rehabilitation', I am not sure how widely used it is.

Rehabilitation
Primary tabs

A process used at trial after a witness's credibility has been attacked through impeachment to rehabilitate the witness's credibility. A witness is rehabilitated either by introducing evidence of the witness's good character for truthfulness and honesty, or by the introduction into evidence of a prior consistent statement made by the witness. Usually, a witness' credibility can only be rehabilitated after his or her credibility has been attacked. If evidence of a witness's credibility is introduced prior to his or her credibility being attacked, this is typically considered bolstering and is not permitted.

exoneration

Explanation:
perhaps this may be appropriate. I first thought of acquittal, but perhaps that is not strong enough.

(North DEU) Rehabilitation / Rehabilitierung
amends for loss of reputation

Explanation:
Lowest CL as I - with a vague ENG tort law recollection of remedies for defamation - am guessing that this is North Germany and not thge Southern German-speaking area where Rehab might not have the smae or any legal meaning.

Example sentence(s):
  • Compensate(verb) to make amends; to supply an equivalent; -- followed by for; as, nothing can compensate for the loss of reputation

agree  Sebastian Witte: This works, too. Quite a bit of work making this fit the English sentence though.

-> Danke schön and thanks. I reckon that my idea can be compressed and compacted into 'amends' after the first occurrence.
