auf ..... abzustellen the case is to turn on; (coll.) the focus is to turn to Explanation: Having seen the previous ProZ answers and 'glossed over' my own DEU/ENG glossary, I reckon that the contrast and evidentiary focus - for any possible claim against the supplier - shifts on short-lived Durchgangsgeschäften (transit dealings?) from the Der Lieferant mit Einwand einer verspäteten Mängelrüge to the Rüge des Abnehmers > the customer's complaint or outlet/consumer's notice of defects. How abstellen differs from 'absehen' I've never been quite able to fathom, namely nachvollziehen. Der Große Eichborn (gulp!) - aim at or base on. Example sentence(s):

10-day clock to report defect Explanation: "For small business transactions, the 10-day clock starts when the customer reports the defect." A bit colloquial, of course, but still useful. Many translations can't be dealt with at the word level because you'd have a completely different angle to express the concept in English. than dealing with this a the word level. |
