German term or phrase: Kern
"Die Abgrenzung des **Hochalmkerns** von den Gößgranitoiden erfolgt am Nordrand des **Gößkerns** durch den Glimmerschieferzug des Draxel-Komplexes."

I usually know this term to mean "core" as in drill core or borehole, but it doesn't seem to fit the context. I found a diagram that includes the Gößkern:

http://geomap.geolba.ac.at/Abbildungen/gk50/EK0182_001_Taf01...

which leads me to believe that it is a structural name, but even the diagram isn't helping me to decipher this. All of my geologic references just list "kern" as core or nucleus, but neither of those seem to fit the context. Any ideas?

Thanks again, Wendy!
Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks, Wendy! The first article was extremely helpful. I had seen the second one already, but didn't want to trust it, because it doesn't seem to have been written by a geologist.
