German term or phrase: was es auf dem Platz gewohnet hat
In an early (1827) Pennsylvania German will from Berks County, the testator leaves his oldest son a "Plantasche" (Plantage), with instructions that he make installment payments for it, which are to be divided equally among the five daughters of the testator. The testator then goes on to say: "Es ist mein Wille das mein sohn Johannes soll Geben for Rend was es auf dem Platz Gewohnet hat die sum von ein hundert thaler..." I understand that it is his will that the son Johannes should give the sum of one hundred dollars for rent...but the "was es auf dem Platz Gewohnet hat" part is a bit confusing! Any suggestions?

Explanation:
Sounds to me like an attempt at a causal conjunction (assuming the "was es" was correctly read?).
