Lots of ways to phrase this; but whatever you use, get rid of "since time immemorial"...

@ Sebastian: Presumably I am as confused as you! I would have thought that the lender issues the promissory note and secures the counter-value from the investor.

Notes to answerer

Asker: It says in that Investopedia article "In effect, anyone becomes a lender when he issues a promissory note." As per my text, the issuer/lender must represent the supply side as the Abnehmer represents the demand side. At the moment, I fail to see how the demand side can at once be the supply side. Have I made a mistake somewhere?

Asker: "The main investors in our promissory notes" should work though. Thank you. I assume it sounds less clumsy than my version.

Asker: The borrower is different from the investors. http://frankfurt-main-finance.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Schuldscheindarlehen-Koller-in-Handbuch-der-AG-Finanzierung.pdf I am starting to get a bit confused about the technical design of this financial product. Would "Main/principal users" be acceptable if I really couldn't figure out how the product works in respect of who is signing up for it (wer es abnimmt)?
