I generally understand this term as "cover letter" or "customer correspondence". However online dictionaries throw another meaning "taking on credit".

Some contexts below:
In diesem Feld werden die bisher erstellten Anschreiben zur aktuellen erheblichen Überziehung addiert. Das erste Anschreiben zum aktuellen Zyklus erhält die Nummer 001, das erste Folgeanschreibung die Nummer 002 usw. Mit jedem Anschreiben wird der Wert neu ermittelt und in diesem Feld festgehalten.

I am confused as to whether Anschreiben just means "cover letter" or if it is a specific bank/finance term.
I'm looking at the term as a Noun and seeking English meaning. Any help appreciated.
