German term or phrase: Wampe
Dear All,

sorry if I bother you. I am translating subtitles (no video made available to me) from DE into IT, but none of the Italian community seems able to help with the matter.

Unser 2. Checkurteil:
Der Goldbär wird überschätzt.
Über die Wampe hier ziehen alles.
Ein Park mitten in Dortmund.
Wieder kommt unser Goldbär zum Einsatz.

How would you translate the "Wampe" sentence into Italian?

TIA!

Revised version on the basis of the link posted above:
They'll wear anything around here to cover up their paunch.
in this case, the fancy dress suit being worn for the interview scene. If I were from Dortmund, I might think that the scriptwriter were defining the locals as chavs.

"Revised version on the basis of the actual footage: Now I'll just pull this thing over my paunch. (The guy is muttering this to himself while putting on the costume - as a sort of running commentary on what he's doing.)"

agree  philgoddard: Your explanation isn't quite right, perhaps because of the lack of context, but yes, that's what Wampe means.
