German term or phrase: Angaben in Rezepten (USA)

"cups of sugar" vs "Gramm Zucker") anstatt in Mengenangaben gerechnet wird.

Nun meine Frage(n):

In all my experience, converting measures, weights, volumes, etc. has been MY job. It's part of translating. My favorite site for converting is:

I have translated countless documents into US English that require converting you name it, from voltage to teaspoons. Especially in recipes, (I've translated thousands) the conversion of volumes, weights and measures is a part of the translator' job.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Vielen Dank.

agree  Erzsébet Czopyk: fully agree with Ramey
22 mins
  -> Bon apétit!

agree  Armorel Young: Needs discussion with the client about what they want and what they are prepared to pay for.
1 hr
  -> True, Armorel.

agree  BrigitteHilgner: Yes, my clients, too, expect me to do the conversions. No way out. // First time I came across cups (years ago), it was "3 cups of bananas". How do you sqeeze bananas into cups, was my first shocked thought. I'll never forget that.
1 hr
  -> 1 fluid cup (USA) = 250ml, 1 dry cup is trickier, but more or less 200g. Joy of Cooking has very precise conversion tables in the glossary (thank goodness!)// Haha! I press them through a sieve.

agree  Eleanore Strauss: Totally agree. Some clients don't want you to convert (I often put the conversion in comments, just in case). On a personal note, as someone who bakes a lot, the US usage of cups is imprecise and to put it mildly, idiotic!
2 hrs
  -> Idiotic? No, cups make you pay attention!

agree  TonyTK: Useful website
2 hrs
  -> Absolutely!

agree  Katrin Rippel Galati
3 hrs
  -> Much obliged, Katrin!

agree  Lonnie Legg: w. Armorel.
3 hrs
  -> Yes, me, too.

agree  Dorothy Schaps
3 hrs
  -> Shared experiences!

agree  Björn Vrooman: Thanks for making me grin (about your response). Ofc, you're correct here and maybe the (NIST) reference posted in the d-box will make it a bit easier to convert cups. Frankly, I find "cups" etc. quite handy cause my measuring cup regularly goes missing.
23 hrs
  -> Gives new meaing to 'in your cups' eh?

agree  Susanna Miles: give both units of measure - the recipe still won't be guaranteed, as the flour and baking powder is also different (from my personal experience)
1 day 2 hrs
  -> True, true. and yes, both units are preferable, but as Armorel said, the client must be clear on this.

agree  Vere Barzilai
1 day 4 hrs
  -> It's a landslide!
