There is a clear parallel here with ‘Postfach’ which is normally translated as ‘post office box’ or ‘P.O. box’. ‘Fach’ on its own is ‘compartment’, ‘case’, ‘tray’, ‘receptacle’. Leo even admits to ‘cubicle’ but doesn’t quite stretch to ‘room’.
