Das Chemikaliengesetz benennt die BAuA sowohl als Zulassungsstelle für Biozide als auch als Einvernehmensstelle für den Arbeitsschutz zur Umsetzung der Biozid-Richtlinie. Die Aufgabenwahrnehmung als Einvernehmensstelle wird im Fachbereich 4 durch den Biozidprozess wahrgenommen.

Die wissenschaftliche Leitung begleitet als Stabsstelle die Projektanträge im internen und externen Antragsverfahren (Drittmittelprojekte) und bündelt Einzelfragestellungen zu inter- und transdiziplinären Projektdesigns und thematischen Schwerpunkten.

Neben der unmittelbaren Beratung des BMAS im Rahmen der Vorschriftensetzung bringt der Fachbereich seine Expertise schwerpunktmäßig in die untergesetzlichen Regelwerke ein.
