Says a lot, really, doesn’t it. I’m sorry to have to argue with your non-native source, but they clearly don’t know how to phrase things in good financial English. I guess that’s the difference between a non-native accounting expert and a native accounting translation expert.

It really does mean "defining the leeway available [to us] for decision-making [when preparing the accounts on the client's behalf]. I am sorry for coming across as being a bit stubborn here. Justification of translation provided: source language speaker genuinely specialising in the field concerned.
Your (as always) highly educated guess is very, very good but this time around, even if only just once, it isn't correct, technically speaking.

How do you deduce that Scott’s translation of “Entscheidungsvorgaben” is wrong? To be perfectly honest, I haven’t the faintest idea where you got “leeway available for administration” from. Nor, to be honest, do I have the faintest idea what that means. I don’t think “Entscheidungsvorgaben” is a particularly complicated concept. It basically means “we got them to tell us how they’d like us to handle these issues”. Why overcomplicate things?

@Scott: "Ermessungsentscheidungen” = (exercise of) management judgement. Your translation of “Entscheidungsvorgaben” here is OK. You could also say something like “obtained instructions from our client on how to resolve these issues".

B) The KudoZ question quite obviously isn't about one term cuz the Asker has gotten that one right quite effortlessly, but is about the translation of the sentence.
