French language (monolingual) [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Furniture / Household Appliances / Items in a kitchen.
French term or phrase: alaise
Context: Proof reading a translation of English to French a description of the way in which a kitchen is fitted out in a house.

English text: Tiled worktop with edge in solid oak.

French text: Plan de travail avec alaise en chêne.

I understood that an edge in this context was "une laise" derived possibly from the term for a finished edge or selvedge as used in manufacturing of materials.

Can anyone offer confirmation either way?

Notes to answerer
Asker: So it's a spelling error? Alèze rather than alaise?

Note to reference poster
Asker: The problem is that it isn't a "planche", but a thin band which could then equally apply to the word "laize"
