La rupture de charge (en anglais offloading) est une expression utilisée en logistique pour désigner le moment où s’opère un chargement ou un dé-chargement de la marchandise pour un changement de moyen de transport. Ce changement peut être immédiat ou après une période de stockage.

Dans le jargon professionnel :

Le transport qui fait subir le moins de rupture de charge est appelé le "complet direct". Dans ce cas la marchandise est chargée chez l'expéditeur et déchargée chez le destinataire.

Inversement, celui qui fait subir le plus de rupture de charge est le "transpot express", mais c'est aussi le plus sûr.

Les ruptures de charges sont particulièrement coûteuses à l'entreprise qui a en charge le transport (diffère selon les contrats) car elles impliquent une perte de temps pendant lequel les deux véhicules sont immobilisés, une infrastructure qui permette d'accueillir les véhicules, de les vider et de stocker leur cargaison, du matériel de manutention, du personnel pour encadrer et mener la manœuvre. De plus, toutes ces opérations de manutention sont l'occasion d'une perte de marchandises (par casse, perte ou vol). Un organisateur de transport essaiera de les limiter autant que possible.

A noter que l'expression peut également être utilisée pour le transport de passagers.
